Niti Aayog annouces to make alcohol, tobacco expensive and suggested to promote Yoga in schools

It must be shocking news for the tobacco, alcohol and sweetened beverages as Niti Aayog has sought to increase the taxes on these items. Also, Niti Aayog suggested making Yoga a regular practice in the schools to encourages healthy choices and behaviours.

Niti Aayog has released 'Strategy for New India @75' documents on Wednesday. In its documents, it has sought to increase the public funding on the health to at least 2.5 per cent of the GDP as envisaged in the National Health Police, 2017.


The Aayog has announced to improve the public and preventive health system in the country.

Niti Aayog is also focussing on to improve the public and preventive health system in the nation. Therefore, it has called for strengthening the village health sanitation and also to cover health issues across various population groups rather focussing only on the child health.

The multiple channels will also be activated by the Aayog like schools, women’s group, colleges, traditional events and will also prepare the communication materials for bringing the change towards the health care.

Niti Aayog has also recommended investing in creating a dedicated cadre for public health and management cadre in states.

"Of the total current expenditure on health classified by healthcare functions, preventive care accounts for 6.7 per cent. The money spent on curing people on the other hand is 51 per cent of the expenditure with the remaining money being spent on pharmaceuticals, other medical goods and patient transportation," Aayog said.
