The incident took place in Mumbai’s Kamathipura area on August 28.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on September 2 has taken cognizance of a video showing a woman thrashed by three men. The incident took place in Mumbai’s Kamathipura area on August 28.

The victim woman had taken objection to some men installing bamboo (for putting up an advertisement) in front of her shop without her consent. The video of the incident went viral in which the woman can be seen crying and asking for help. The video clip purportedly showed a local MNS leader and two others slapping and pushing the middle-aged woman.

NCW India Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) to immediately take action and arrest the accused involved in the matter. The Commission has also sought a fair and time-bound investigation.

"NCW India has taken cognizance. Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to DGP Maharashtra to immediately arrest the accused involved in the matter. NCW has also sought a fair and time-bound investigation. Action taken must be apprised to NCW within 5 days," tweets NCW.

After the video of the incident circulated on social media platforms, the police registered an FIR under relevant IPC sections at Nagpada Police Station.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
