Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu who has been criticised for his Pakistan wrote a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
In a letter, he has suggested to both countries PM about the Kartarpur Sahib to build a corridor for the pilgrims to travel with ease.
Sidhu has written a letter on Sunday and wrote two letters. For PM Modi, he wrote six suggestions while for Pak PM Imran Khan, he wrote five suggestions.
Punjab cabinet minister suggested that concrete structures should be avoided to maintain the ‘pristine’ landscape.
He wrote, ‘The sacredness and serenity of Kartarpur Sahib and Dera Baba Nanak Gurudwara Sahib await the footfalls of our pilgrims. Yet precisely our footfalls have the power to erode the history, architecture and ecology of these sites.’
In a letter, Sidhu also wrote the holy land should be protected and also advised to use sustainable and organic methods to sustain the flow of pilgrims, including sustainable use of water.
He also suggests that transport should be avoided on the corridor for the free movement of pilgrims (except for the elderly).
"We must move primarily on foot with an exception only for the elderly, disabled or sick, along with providing accessible amenities such as toilets. Personal transport should be eschewed at all costs," Sidhu wrote.
He also proposed that there should be ‘langars’ for the pilgrims and also suggests to provide amenities like washrooms with careful execution of waste disposal. Also, asked the leaders for banning any use of plastic bags, bottles, styrofoam and packaged foods.
Talking about the eco-friendly Kartarpur corridor, Sidhu closed his letter and also reminded the two leaders about the importance of the values and teachings of Guru Nanak.
