Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has pulled up the Bihar government and CBI for transferring the investigating officer in the case, when the Chief Justice had clearly ordered not to do so and now, it has become a contempt of court’s order.

The CJI Ranjan Gogoi, who got angry at the CBI’s lawyer said in the apex court, “Enough is enough...the way you treated unfortunate children, you can't let these things happen...we want to know how many shelter homes are there in Bihar? How many inmates live there? How much funding has been received? What is the condition of the inmates?”

CJI asked the CBI’s lawyer to answer the questions or if he is not in a position to reply then, “talk to the concerned person or bring him here.”

CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked the lawyer that “Delhi to Patna is only two hours. We can bring Chief Secretary here.”

Today, the Supreme Court also transferred the Muzaffarpur shelter home abuse case to Delhi’s Prevention of Children in Sexual Offences Act court in Delhi.

The case pertains to the alleged mental, physical and sexual exploitation of minor girls who were residing in the shelter home, being run by Brajesh Thakur, who had operated it for several years and the staff including him, have been charged with heinous crime under POCSO Act. The Supreme Court has said that Thakur is a very influential person and can affect the proceedings of the case happening outside the court and hence, it was recommended to transfer him.
