In another cybercrime, singing reality shows Indian Idol season 10 contestant Avanti Patel has been reportedly cheated of Rs 1.7 lakh on the pretext of debit card verification as accused man posed as a bank executive. The 22-year-old accused was arrested from Jharkhand.
The accused identified as Rajkumar Jaynarayan Mandal was held by Sion police with the help of Cyber Cell of Mumbai police after the accused registered a case of bank fraud with the Sion police
According to reports, accused Mandal telephoned Avanti Patel, Indian Idol contestant and her sister posing as an executive of a public sector bank, he said. The accused obtained their bank details and debit card passwords on call.
Accused later withdrew Rs. 1.7 lakh from Ms Patel and her sister's accounts and transferred the money to other bank accounts and Paytm, a digital wallet, accused confessed.
The police traced the phone call to Jharkhand and fetched the detailed of the accounts in which the syphoned off money was deposited, he said.
A police team went to Jharkhand and arrested the accused from there, he said.
