Man arrested for faking own kidnapping to repay debt, wife received ransom call on WhatsApp

Mumbai: A 27-year-old man from Mumbai, Jitendra Joshi, was arrested by the police for allegedly faking his own kidnapping and demanding ransom from his family to settle his debt. Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Bansal confirmed the arrest and provided details about the case.

Faking the Kidnapping


Jitendra Joshi's wife received a WhatsApp call where she was informed about her husband's kidnapping and threatened to pay a ransom of Rs 5 lakhs.

Concerned for Joshi's safety, the family immediately contacted the police, initiating an investigation into the matter.

Within 12 hours of the report, the police managed to locate Joshi.

 A ploy to obtain money from the father

During questioning, he admitted to orchestrating the entire kidnapping scheme as a ploy to obtain money from his father.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Jitendra Joshi was promptly arrested by the police following his confession. He was presented before the court, which remanded him into police custody until June 3.

Ongoing Investigation

The Mumbai Police have launched an investigation to delve deeper into Jitendra Joshi's fraudulent actions. They are examining his financial records to determine the exact amount of debt he accumulated and are also looking into any potential accomplices involved in the scheme.
