The 8-year-old boy who fell into a 60-feet-deep borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha district died after hours of efforts to save his life, District Collector Uma Shankar Bhargav informed on March 15. Lokesh fell into the borewell yesterday morning.

“We tried our best but it is regrettable that we were not able to save the child. CM also expressed his grief and announced financial help of Rs 4 lakhs for the family of the child. We will surely take action against those who are culprits,” said Uma Shankar Bhargav.

The borewell was 60-feet-deep, and Lokesh was stuck at the depth of 43 feet. The rescue teams dug a parallel to the borewell, and NDRF team made a tunnel to save the child, but all the efforts went in vain with the child’s death. A team of doctors was also monitoring the Lokesh.

“The incident took place around 11 am. Police and the administration reached the spot immediately. There can be movements noticed in the child and we are trying to rescue him as early as possible,” said Vidisha ASP Sameer Yadav.

Police and the administration reached the spot immediately after getting the information. They noticed movements in the child and started rescue operations.

The incident took place when Lokesh was playing near the borewell. He slipped into the narrow hole around 11 am at Kherkhedi Pathar village under Lateri tehsil in the district.
