Batting for the Opposition's Presidential candidate Meira Kumar, the Congress on Monday said brotherhood is the central agenda for which their nominee is the right person.
"The post held by the President is supreme. The person should be the right guardian of the Constitution and its values, and Meira Kumar is the right person," Surjewala told ANI.
Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Surjewala said, "On one hand, there is a divide and rule policy and on the other, brotherhood is the central agenda."
The Congress leader further said that the electors must cast their votes based on the national interest.
Similarly, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it is a fight between two ideologies and in this clash, their candidate dominates the rest.
"The Presidential elections is not between two parties or two candidates, it is between two ideologies. When there is a clash of ideologies, I think that our candidate is the best," Azad said.
Azad urged the people to vote on the basis of their conscience.
However, the BJP leaders have expressed confidence over their nominee Ram Nath Kovind's victory in the polls.
The voting for the Presidential election is underway and will continue till 5 p.m.
A total of 32 polling stations have been established --- one in Parliament House room no. 62 and rest one each in the State legislative assemblies. The counting of votes will take place on July 20.
