The Election Commission of India (EC) announced that bypolls in the South Tura constituency of Meghalaya would be held on August 23.
According to the EC, the last date for filing a nomination is August 8, and scrutiny of nominations will happen on August 9,
The election-governing body has decided to use both Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) for the elections.
A valid identification proof for voter's identification will be mandatory for a voter to exercise his/her right to vote.
However, Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) will be the main document for identification.
The Model Code of Conduct will immediately come into force in the district, in which the whole or any part of the Assembly Constituency going for the by-election is included.
The Model Code of Conduct will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the concerned state government.
It will also be applicable to the Union Government for the district of the state concerned.
