With the aim to empower the youth of the state, a skill development centre under the aegis 'Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana' was inaugurated by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in Imphal recently.
The 'Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana' is a flagship scheme of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Skill India' campaign.
The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.
The Chief Minister said that as per the records provided by different employment exchanges, the state now has more than seven lakh unemployed youths.
Conveying that Prime Minister Modi has a dream to provide employment to every Indian, Biren informed that the State Cabinet has decided to operationalise Manipur Skill Development Mission under the Labour and Employment Department to make former's dream a reality.
Meanwhile, Newmai Jonah, one of the trainees, expressed her delight and said this training is very beneficial because the youth in Manipur will no longer remain unemployed once they get trained and know better about computers.
Gurumayum Satyen Sharma, the trainer of 'Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana', on his part said that people nowadays don't get jobs very easily due to lack of skills.
"But with this scheme, we are able to impart skill development to the youth of the state which will help them in getting job opportunities after the certification," said Sharma.
"It will also help boost the state economy by generating more employment in various other sectors," he added.
