As the debate over the next Prime Minister is on, state BJP chief of West Bengal Dilip Ghosh has claimed that Mamata Banerjee could be the 1st Bengali Prime Minister.
As the Opposition is pouncing upon the BJP led NDA government in several states after the Congress defeated the former in the Hindi heartland, the voices of Rahul Gandhi getting portrayed as the next PM has grown.
But, adding to the controversy, Bengal’s BJP chief has said that Trinamool Congress chief and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee could become the first Bengali Prime Minister in the near future.
Ghosh said while wishing birthday to Mamata Banerjee, “We want her to be fit so that she can work well. She needs to remain fit because if there is any Bengali who has the chance to be the PM from this Bengal, then she is the one.”
He further added that “I pray for her good health and success in life "because the fate of our state depends on her success.”
Ghosh said that Banerjee is ahead of everyone in the race from the Opposition, and said that “We can surely have one from Bengal after her. But she has the first chance. We couldn't have Jyoti Basu as the first Bengali prime minister as his party did not allow him to be. We had Pranab Mukherjee from the state as the first Bengali to become President so now it''s time to have a Bengali as PM.”
Now, it would be interesting to see if the Opposition is able to stop the Modi juggernaut, then will it be Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati or the front runner Mamata Banerjee.
