Jind case

Incidents of “maulkis” (bought brides) vanishing after a couple of days of marriage are on the rise in Haryana. According to media reports, a woman allegedly abandoned her husband after 2 days of the marriage arranged by a middleman in Jind.

"I had paid them ₹70,000, she stayed with me for 2 days and told me she had to go to Ludhiana for a 'jagran' so I took her to the railway station from where she disappeared," ANI reported husband as saying.

Modus Operandi

A large number of gangs are operating in various parts of Haryana. They lure unmarried men who have crossed the age of 30 years. These men find it hard to get a bride for themselves. Money is paid to the middleman who makes arrangements for the marriage. The bride is mostly not from Haryana and legal formalities of marriage are done outside Haryana.

Once the legal formalities are done, the husband develops confidence in the relationship and the bride tries to mingle with the other family members.

During this period, the bride easily shoos away the groom on one pretext or the other. In a couple of days, the bride insists to visit her parents or relatives one one pretext or the other. Once out of the home, the bride vanishes easily with the help of other members of the gang.

Blackmail threats
When the husband approaches the 'middlemen' to get back his wife, then begins a saga of blackmail and threats. They even threaten the husband to implicate him in false cases.

Demand for the restoration of conjugal life

In this Jind case, the husband has claimed that the marriage documents were prepared in a Ludhiana Court and were attested by a notary public.
The husband has registered a complaint with the CM Window and approached the Haryana government for restoration of conjugal life. He has demanded that the culprits should be put behind the bars.

Locals have long been demanding that there should be proper investigations in such case and a separate wing of the police force should be created to look into these case on daily basis.
