Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar is likely to make her political debut and join Congress. The actress can contest the upcoming poll from Mumbai, say sources.
Rangeela actress Urmila Matondkar is on the top list of being nominated from Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency. However, Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam, state Congress spokespersons and Ms Matondkars family members declined to comment, says report.
Mumbai's six Lok Sabha constituencies will vote on April 29 along with 17 others in the states fourth phase of polling.
If Urmila Matondkar is nominated from Congress, her rival would be Bharatiya Janata Party incumbent MP Gopal Shetty in the constituency that was once regarded a BJP bastion.
The 45-year-old Urmila Matondkar married to Kashmiri, M.A. Mir. Her name for joining the grand old party has been doing rounds since the past few days.
Urmila Matondkar started her career as a child star aged seven in a Marathi film, Zaakol, her Bollywood’s first role was in Shashi Kapoor-Rekha starrer Kalyug
Later, she worked in biggest actors in major films like Dacait, Bade Ghar Ki Beti, Narasimha, Chamatkar, Aa Gale Lag Jaa (paired opposite Jugal Hansraj, the child co-star of Masoom), Rangeela, Indian, Judaai, Daud, Satya, Kaun, Mast, Dillagi, Khoobsurat, Jungle, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Ek Hasina Thi, Om Jai Jagadeesh, Bhoot, Pinjar, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara and Speed.
Matondkar has also worked in several Marathi and South Indian language films and television serials.
