A massive fire breaks out in the pharmacy department of Kolkata Medical College and Hospital. At least 10 fire engines and Kolkata police rushed to the spot. Rescue underway.

Around 250 patients have been evacuated from fire affected area. There are no reports of any casualties reported till now. The fire broke at the pharmacy department of the hospital. Soon after the black smoke was reported, the fire department was alerted. The smoke was spotted from the building that houses the pharmacy at around 7:30 am.
However, there were no flames seen, black smoke billowed from the building. Apart from the firefighters and the police, West Bengal's disaster management authority officials have also reached the medical college.
Kolkata Medical College has several buildings in its complex. After the fire broke out, many patients were taken out of the building on stretchers. Even some patients were taken out on bed sheets with their saline drips. Some of the patients were seen lying on the floor.
Some of the patients were moved out of the hospital in ambulances. Kolkata Medical College is one of the oldest hospitals in the city.
