A major fire broke out in Kolkata’s Gariahat area after a transformer exploded and multiple shops caught fire in the market.
The incident, which occurred late at around 1 am, destroyed multiple shops next to the buildings and the garment shops were burned down, turning lakhs of goods into ashes.
An official said that, around 19 fire tenders were brought in to douse the fire which had taken a disastrous course, as the department was notified at 1 am at Traders Assembly building.
The official from the Fire department said that no one was injured in the incident and the reason is being suspected to be the transformer blast.
The official added that “At the moment, the fire has been brought under control. Our men are fighting tooth and nail to douse it. We are yet to find out the exact reason behind the blaze, but preliminary findings show that transformer blast might have led to it.”
