Farmers protesting in Delhi

Farmers in Delhi are demanding debt waiver and they don’t want a Ram temple in Ayodhya, as the voices have become stern at the Ramlila Maidan.

PM Narendra Modi is again in the dock for crafting his rural policies and the major issue being lacking in the implementation. The farmers are again on street with their age old demands of minimum support price and a complete debt and loan waiver.

Even after promises by the state governments, these farmers who have gathered from different parts of the country, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, MP and UP are feeling cheated by the state administration and are demanding an immediate action in the case.

Some farmers have been raising slogans, saying, ‘We don’t want Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, we want debt waiver.’

60-year-old Bhramar Vishi, the sole bread earner of his family from Odisha, told NDTV that, “I took a loan of Rs. 3 lakh, three years ago and it is very difficult to pay it back. I want my loan to be waived off.”

Around 78 farmers who have gathered from West Bengal also raised their concerns in Delhi, and Urmila Naiya says, “The kind of vegetables and beans we grow there... there is not enough market for it. What we do manage to sell is sold at Rs. 1 or Rs. 2 per kg. How will that be enough?” as per the NDTV.

The Tamil Nadu farmers, who have already protested in Delhi, demanding a loan waiver have again gathered with a strength of 1200 and are demanding the implementation of MS Swaminathan reports.
