A 26-year-old woman was murdered, and her body was allegedly dumped in the Thumboormuzhy forest by her male friend following a financial disagreement in Thrissur district's Chalakudy.
Athira had lent money to her friend Akhil in instalments. Everything was going smoothly until the day when she asked Akhil to repay the money as she needed it. However, Akhil was unable to repay the money and decided to resort to crime.
The murder of Athira came to light when her husband filed a missing complaint with the Kalady police. Acting upon the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and traced the location of the deceased's phone. According to a report by Malayala Manorama, the last known location of the phone was in Thumboormuzhy.
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Athira was last seen with Akhil. Subsequently, during the interrogation, the accused confessed to murdering his friend and disposing of her body in the forest in an attempt to evade repayment. Akhil admitted to strangling Athira to death using a shawl from her dress.
Police also took Akhil to the forest and recovered Athira’s body.
Further investigation is underway.
