The Ernakulam district has suffered a loss of Rs 1.22 crore in widespread damage caused by heavy rainfall on Friday, said the Ernakulam District Administration.
According to the District Administration, many houses and agricultural lands have suffered huge damage including in Chellanam, the coastal village in the city.
"The sea incursion has caused damage of Rs 30 lakh each in Kochi Taluk and Kanayannoor Taluk," said the district administration in a press release. There are 852 people including 97 children in 30 relief camps in the district.
The district administration has set up eight camps for people aged above 60. Heavy rains in several parts of Kerala have triggered floods and landslides which have wreaked havoc in the region over the past few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alert for heavy rainfall for various districts in Kerala.
