Following Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) attack on Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on the eve of the opening of Kartarpur corridor, supporters of Navjot Singh Sidhu put up posters calling him and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan the real heros of Kartarpur.

The hordings were assembled by Amritsar Municipal Councillor Harpal Singh Verka who is known to be close aid of Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The hoardings with image of Imran Khan and Navjot Singh Sidhu termed them the real heros who made Kartarpur possible.

Despite that, the hoardings, which appeared on Tuesday afternoon, were quickly lowered within hours.

"Imran Khan had asked his friend Navjot Singh Sidhu what he can do for him as he visited his swearing-in ceremony in Pakistan. Sidhu put forth a demand before Imran Khan that the Kartarpur corridor be opened for Sikh devotees. I put up hoardings of my own as I wanted to send out the message to the people about Sidhu's role in getting the corridor opened," Harpal Singh Verka said.

The Congress leader Sidhu was the first Indian politician to receive the first invitation card to the opening ceremony of Kartarpur corridor.

The Punjab government has already granted him permission to visit Pakistan on 9th November when the Kartarpur corridor will officially be inaugurated.

While Navjot Singh Sidhu’s supporters want the Kartarpur corridor credit to go to him, Chief Minister Amrinder Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal were at loggerheads on the issue of leading the first group of pilgrims to Kartarpur Sahib.

SGPC and the Punjab Government were at odds on the issue of a common stage being set up to inaugurate the corridor. SGPC, supported by Akali Dal, has set up a separate stage parallel to the one set up by the Punjab government.

While the Akali Dal wants Vice President Venkaiah Naidu to lead the pilgrims to Pakistan, CM Amarinder Singh’s supporters have already declared that he will be leading the pilgrims which will include former PM Manmohan Singh.
