Siddaramaiah slams BJP over Savarkar controversy

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, who recently slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for being "jaundiced", on August 20 launched another blatant attack on the party by saying that those who killed Mahatma Gandhi will not spare him.

While visiting the rain-affected areas in Chikkamagaluru, the former Karnataka CM told media persons that he's on RSS and BJP’s radar for speaking out the truth.

"Will those who killed Gandhiji, will they spare me? I tell the truth that's why BJP and RSS people are angry with me. Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji, it is sad that they worship his portrait," said Siddaramaiah.

Siddaramaiah also spoke about the Savarkar controversy and said that the way VD Savarkar behaved in the jail was not right.  "It is true that VD Savarkar went to jail. He wrote an apology letter and was released from jail. BJP calls him Veer Savarkar. I'm not angry with Savarkar. What I said was the way he behaved was not right," he said.

The senior Congress leader’s ‘jaundice’ remark was made after clashes in Shivamogga in which a group of Tipu Sultan followers allegedly attempted to remove Veer Savarkar’s poster from Ameer Ahmed Circle on Independence Day. Following the incident, the two groups from different communities clashed.
