Kanjhawala Death Case: 7th accused surrenders before Delhi Police [WATCH]

In the latest development in the Kanjhawala death case, in which a 20-year-old woman died after being hit by a car and dragged for several kilometres on New Year's night in Delhi, the seventh accused surrendered before the police on Friday, January 6.

Accused Ankush reached Sultanpuri Police Station today and surrendered himself.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police apprehended the sixth suspect in connection with the January 1 incident.

Recently, CCTV footage revealed that the accused were seen outside the home of Ashutosh, the owner of the car. In the footage, Ashutosh can be seen talking to the accused two hours after the incident.

Police said that the footage was recorded at around 4:07 am when one of the accused arrived to meet Ashutosh and then after that he is seen coming and going into the house several times.

According to police, the accused, who met Ashutosh, is none other than Ankush.

On January 5, Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Delhi Police Sagar Preet Hooda said that there were seven accused in the case. Revealing the names, Hooda stated that Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna were friends of the five arrested accused and tried to protect them. The duo has also been accused of tampering with evidence and misleading cops who are investigating the case. 

Delhi Police officials said: "In the new CCTV visuals, Ankush is also talking to someone on the phone."

"Ankush was talking to the accused on the phone. Ashutosh is last seen on CCTV walking towards his home at 4:52 am. According to the police, at 4.42 am, Ashutosh left the house wearing a jacket and returned at around 4:52 am," police said.

Meanwhile, interrogation of Ashutosh is going on to find out where the accused went during those ten minutes and the conversation between them.

Five accused in the case - Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal had been arrested on January 1. The five were driving the grey Baleno car that they borrowed from Ashutosh.

On the evening of January 5, all five accused were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for medical examination.

Hooda yesterday said that, a total of 18 teams are investigating the case. He also revealed that the vehicle was driven by Amit Khanna and not by Deepak.

"We are trying to file the charge sheet as early as possible. During the post-mortem, no evidence of sexual assault was found," the Special CP said.

According to the police, the statement of eyewitness Nidhi has been recorded and no link has been found between the eyewitness and the accused.
