In a horrific incident, three decomposed bodies, two minor children, recovered from a locked house in Odisha’s Sambalpur, police said on May 13.
The deceased have been identified as Sazia Parwin, her eight-year-old son Abdul Rehman, and her six-year-old daughter Humera Tayiba. Sazia's husband passed away two years ago.
Neighbors noticed a foul smell coming from the house, which had been locked for the past three days. They promptly notified the police, who quickly arrived at the scene and, in the presence of a magistrate, forced open the door.
According to the police, a man who had been frequently visiting the family is now missing.
“In the presence of their family members who came from Chakradharpur and the magistrate, we broke open the door and found the bodies. We suspect it to be a murder case. On receiving a complaint, we have registered a case and launched a probe,” informed SDPO of Sambalpur Sadar, Pradeep Sahu.
“We were not able to contact them for the last four days as their phones were switched off. We thought they might have fallen sick. When we reached here we found them dead,” said the deceased’s mother, who came all way from Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur.
Bodies have been sent for the autopsy and police have initiated the probe.
Further details are awaited.
