Following Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan’s attack on BJP’s Ravi Kishan, who had talked about the issue of "drug menace in Bollywood" in Lok Sabha on Monday, for "tarnishing" the image of the entire movie industry, Telangana BJP stated that she "sounded like a full-blown hypocrite".
Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday presented a Zero Hour notice in Rajya Sabha over an alleged "conspiracy to defame the film industry" and launched an attack on BJP leader Ravi Kishan for marring the reputation of the whole industry because of few people involved in drug.
As soon as Jaya Bachchan spoke in the Rajya Sabha, Telangana BJP spokesperson K Krishna Saagar Rao criticized her saying, "exhibited her irresponsibility as a Parliamentarian" by not condemning the drug menace in the industry which has "destroyed many young lives".
In a media statement, the BJP spokesperson stated that Jaya Bachchan sounded like a "hypocrite" in the Rajya Sabha.
"She [Jaya Bachchan] hasn't condemned the drug menace, which is destroying the lives of young people across India, including young actors and actresses in her own film industry. She hasn't condemned drug dependence, addiction, and peddling by young Bollywood, Tollywood, sandalwood actors, whose names were recently released by NCB and some are even arrested," Telangana BJP said.
Labeling her statement as "shallow and shameful", BJP asked who was she trying to protect.
"It's shocking, that she is giving notice in Rajya Sabha over a conspiracy to defame Bollywood. Her statement and posturing is quite shallow and shameful. I wish to ask MP Jaya Bachchan what and who is she trying to protect? Is this what, the acclaimed member from the first family of Bollywood be doing?" Telangana BJP said.
"MP Jaya Bachchan notice and statement in Rajya Sabha today, once again exposes the irresponsibility, prejudice, and selfishness of even the senior block of Bollywood actors, who otherwise act as gatekeepers of ethics, morals, and values," Krishna Saagar said.
Jaya Bachchan in Rajya Sabha stated that it was a shame that people who earned their names in the movie industry called it a "gutter" and "tarnishing" the image of the entire industry because of some people was not justified.
Without naming anybody, Jaya Bachchan stated that, "I am ashamed that yesterday one of our members in Lok Sabha, who is from the film industry, spoke against it. It is a shame."
