Jahangirpuri violence: Swords, pistols brandished at Hanuman Jayanti rally in Delhi

Delhi's Jahangirpuri Communal Violence

Communal clashes took place between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti rally in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area on Saturday. Several police officials were hurt in the ensuing violence.

As maintained by the police, stones were pelted and some vehicles set on fire in the clash that took place at around 6 pm on Saturday. Security personnel were deployed in the area to get the situation under control.


In videos accessed, participants in the procession can be witnessed brandishing guns, pistols and swords. The clip, taken in C-D Block Market in Jahangirpuri, was recorded before stone-pelting started in the area on Saturday.

Two locals who recorded the videos said, Anwara, aged 30 said, "I was coming from the market when around 2.15 pm Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra was crossing the market. I saw people brandishing guns and that is why I shot the video."

Sahil, aged 15, added, "I was at my shop. Hanuman Jayanti Yatras were crossing the market and people were brandishing guns. The Yatras continued from 2 onwards. To keep proof, I recorded the videos."

In another video, a group of people can be seen pelting stones.

 

Latest developments in Jahingirpuri violence:

A total of nine people were hurt in the communal clash in Delhi on Saturday. This includes eight cops and one civilian. The injured were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.
