Jagannath Rath Yatra 2018: 141st Rath Yatra starts in Ahmedabad; CM Vijay Rupani pulls chariot

The 141st rath yatra of God Jagannath has begun today at 7 in Ahmedabad. Over lakhs of devotees are there to attend the yatra to worship their God. Devotees wait for the Jagannath Rath Yatra every year. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani has given the green signal to the yatra by cleaning the way in front of the yatra through golden broom and then, pulled the chariot. Rupani was the first to worship the God in the temple. According to the tradition, he started the yatra. Earlier, Bhartiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah also reached Ahmedabad to join Rath Yatra and also participated in Mangal Aarti. Besides, Ahmedabad, the rath yatra will also begin in Odisha’s Puri.

Reportedly, the rath yatra in Puri will begin after 8 am when the gates of the temple open. As per the expectations, around 15 lakh devotees would gather to worship the God Jagannath in Odisha’s Puri.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also extended his wishes for one of the biggest religious event of the country. He took to Twitter and send his good wishes for the yatra and wrote, ‘Best wishes to the Kutchi community on Aashadhi Beej, the Kutchi New Year. May the coming year bring happiness as well as good health in everyone’s life and may everyone’s aspirations be fulfilled.’

The Yatra marks the return on Lord Krishna to his place Vrindavan along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra.
