Independence Day 'terror attack foiled' after Kashmiri youth held from Delhi-bound bus in Jammu and Kashmir

A terror attack that was said to take place on 72nd Independence day celebrations on 15 August is claimed to have foiled after a Kashmiri youth was held late Sunday night from a Delhi-bound bus in Jammu. It is said the youth was carrying explosives. As per news agency PTI, the youth, who was identified as Arfan Wani, was arrested with eight grenades in Gandhi Nagar area. A police officer said the youth was a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama district.

The police said they have also recovered Rs 60,000 cash from the youth. The inputs by the agencies said that the militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen have planned to carry out terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi on the Independence Day.

As per a report in IndianExpress, he boarded the Delhi-bound bus from General Bus Stand area in Jammu around 11 pm and when the vehicle reached Gandhi Nagar, security agencies stopped it and arrested him.

The security has been buffed up in Jammu and Kashmir after agencies sounded a high alert in the state in the wake of terror attack and Supreme Court hearing the petitions challenging the validity of Article 35A. The youth who has been arrested is being interrogated about the plans and his contacts in the national capital, the police said.
