The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said the arrival of monsoon is likely to be delayed by a week. and it is now expected to arrive only by June 8. The IMD department also said that heat wave to severe the conditions very likely to prevail over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha during next 3-4 days.
The weather department said that monsoon is now expected to arrive only by June 8. However, normally monsoon arrives by June 1 in Kerala.
"It is very likely to shift northwards gradually leading to favourable conditions for the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala around June 8. Conditions are likely to become favourable for the advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of northeastern states during next 3-4 days," the IMD said in its monsoon bulletin.

Earlier, IMD had said that monsoon could arrive by June 7. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the highest maximum temperature of 47.9°C was recorded at Nowgong, Madhya Pradesh.
Private weather forecaster Skymet on Saturday too revised its forecast from June 4 to June 7. Several parts of the country are reeling under severe heatwave with temperatures touching 50 degrees Celsius in some parts.
Eight out of the 15 hottest places in the world in the past 24 hours were from India with the others in neighbouring Pakistan, weather monitoring website El Dorado had said.
