A day after IMD issued a high alert and predicted a duststorm with heavy rain is very likely to hit the national capital Delhi and adjacent isolated region today evening. Traffic came to a crawl at several areas in Delhi- NCR as the strong wind, reaching up to 70 kmph, picked up dust and swirled them around, reducing visibility in the region.

The sky turned dark from a bright day within a matter of seconds as the heavy dust storm hit several areas Delhi and NCR. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has earlier predicted that there is a possibility of thunderstorm accompanied with a squall and gusty wind will hit states across the country on Sunday.
The Met office of Uttarakhand has issued weather warning for the next five days in the state. Moderate rainfall accompanied with the thunderstorm is likely to hit the state today and tomorrow. The Met office also predicted of very light rain or thunderstorm at isolated places on May 15, May 16 and May 17.

The thundershowers accompanied with a squall and gusty winds also likely to hit isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha with wind speed reaching 50-70 kmph.
Thunderstorm over the hill states and its subsequent effect on the plains in north India is due to a new western disturbance from Sunday, according to the IMD. According to the IMD advisory, heavy rain is “very likely” at isolated places in Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Kerala.
