Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat passed away at the age of 63 on Wednesday at a private hospital in New Delhi, Mumbai party officials said. Sonia Gandhi arrives at Primus Hospital where senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat passed away this morning
Gurudas Kamat was also the former Mumbai Congress President. The veteran Mumbai politician breathed his last at Primus Hospital in Chanakyapuri in New Delhi.
Gurudas Kamat had been appointed as the Union minister in the UPA-II government and was the minister of state (MoS) in the ministry of home affairs. Kamat was also assigned the charge of MoS at the telecommunications and information technology ministry, in 2011.
The senior Congress leader was also a Member of Parliament for the Mumbai North West constituency of Maharashtra in 2009. He had also represented the Mumbai North East constituency of Maharashtra in 1984, 1991, 1998 and 2004, as per the Times of India. Kamat was a commerce graduate and had earned a law degree from the Government Law College, Mumbai.
