Gurmeet Ram Rahim's Z-plus security withdrawn after rape conviction

Haryana Chief Secretary Depinder Singh briefed the media on 26 August and said that the Z-plus security of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Insan was automatically withdrawn after his arrest.

“The moment Ram Rahim Singh was arrested, his Z-plus security stood automatically withdrawn,” said Depinder Singh.

A special CBI court found Ram Rahim guilty of raping two women and he was taken into custody in the evening.

There had been several media reports that talked about VIP treatment being given to Ram Rahim in jail. Denying all such reports, the chief secretary said that he is is being treated like all other prisoners.

“No VIP treatment given to Ram Rahim Singh, he was taken through a helicopter purely on security considerations. Ram Rahim Singh is being treated and given food in the same manner as other prisoners get,” said Depinder Singh Dhesi.

“Helicopter was arranged by the Haryana Government, they had paid for it,” he added.

Talking about the people who lost their lives in the violent clashes, he said that 28 people died in Panchkula (24 men, 3 women and a child), while three people lost their lives in Sirsa.

The quantum of punishment will be announced on 28 August.
