Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday distributed compensation to the farmers whose crop got destroyed in recent floods and rains. The chief minister distributed cheques to agriculturists hailing from Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez talukas in North Goa, which were worst-hit.
"Recent floods and rains have caused a lot of damage to crops as well as property in the state. Therefore, as promised, we have handed out compensation to farmers before Ganesh Chaturthi festival (beginning September 2)," said the chief minister.
As per the Agriculture department's estimates, more than 500 farmers were affected by floods in the last fortnight.
