Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, has been transferred. The Union Expenditure Secretary Girish Chandra Murmu, will take over as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Former Defence secretary Radha Krishna Mathur will be the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, the Rashtrapati Bhavan announced on Friday.
The changes come more than two months after the abrogation of Article 370 which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories, the move will come into existence from 31st October.
Satya Pal Malik, who was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir since 2018, has been transferred as Governor of Goa.
Satya Pal Malik was the first career politician to be appointed to the position in 51 years. GC Murmu’s appointment marks the return of former bureaucrats tasked with running the show in Jammu and Kashmir.
While GC Murmu, is the Expenditure Secretary in the Union Finance Minister, Mr Murmu was set to retire in November this year, he will be sworn in on Thursday. While on the other hand, Radha Krishna Mathur, has served as the defence secretary and is a former Chief Information Commissioner.
