Gateway to South: After Shiv Sena, BJP looks to seal pact with AIADMK in a lesser deal for 2019 polls

In a major shuffle ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP announced a 50:50 alliance with the Shiv Sena and now is aiming to seal a deal with the Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK.

Union Minister Piyush Gooyal will be finalizing the pact and BJP will act as a backbencher in the alliance, wherein they would be getting lesser seats than the AAIDMK.


As per information, the BJP had sought to share a 20-20 formula for the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry but the media reports have cleared that the formula which was finally agreed upon gives 15 seats to the BJP and the remaining 25 to the AIADMK.

Of the 15 seats which BJP will pocket, it might contest on eight seats and the reamaining would be give to the minor allies of the NDA like actor-politician Vijayakanth’s DMDK, Anbumani Ramadoss’s PMK.

Deputy CM and AIADMK’s president O Paneerselvam announced today that PMK has joined there alliance after receiving 7 seats for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He said, “Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) joined our alliance today. 7 seats allotted to PMK for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. We will fight on 21 seats in by-elections & PMK will support us.”

Paneerselvam further said, “AIADMK will fight on 21 vacant assembly seats in the by-elections & Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will support us.”

BJP president Amit Shah was expected to formally announce the alliance between the ADMK and BJP, but he will be touching down in Chennai later in the day. Also, PM Narendra Modi is expected to hold two rallies in the state today.
