Events from farmers' protest that took violent turn, from Singhu border lynching to Lakhimpur Kheri killings

Following the massive fury and protests, the Centre at last rolled back the three contentious farm laws on 19th November. Speaking to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologised to the citizens and announced the big decision to repeal all three agri reform laws.

PM Modi said, "I apologise to India and with a true and pure heart that may be... we were not able to convince farmers [over the farm laws]. I'm here to declare that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws...We will complete all the formalities during the Parliament session that begins this month".

R-Day Violence:

Following the announcement of the three farm laws, the Indian government enraged the farmers from across India with protests taking a violent turn on Republic Day.

The farmers' tractor rally in the national capital that was meant to be peaceful and a platform to express their demands, turned violent as few protesters broke through police barricades and entered in areas not permitted for their protest. The route taken by this farmers reportedly drifted from the actual route the farmers were supposed to take.

Before long, there were confrontation between the protesters and the police, during which many people were injured. The cops fell back on lathicharge and fired teargas shells in order to disperse the crowd. Many protesters even forced into the Red Fort, waved and hoisted their flags from its ramparts.

Lakhimpur Kheri horror:

Tension gripped Uttar Pradesh when four farmers were killed and many injured on 3rd October. Four farmers were mowed by an SUV in Lakhimpur Kheri when a group agitating farmers against the Centre's new farm laws was holding a protest against the visit of UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

A journalist covering the event was also killed in the same incident. In the violence that occurred, four more lives were lost the same day. Minister Ajay Misra’s son Ajay Misra is the prime accused in the case.

Singhu border lynching:

A horrifying video of a Dalit man being lynched to death cropped up on 15th October. The disfigured dead body of Lakhbir Singh was found near a farmers' protest site at Kundli in Haryana.

Two people belonging to the Nihang order were nabbed and two more "surrendered" before Sonipat Police in connection with the horrific incident.

Another bloodcurdling incident came to light on 10th November when a farmer, who was protesting against the farm laws at the Singhu border, was found dead. The deceased victim was identified as Gurpreet Singh, a native of Punjab's Rurki village.
