In a major move by the Ericsson India Private Limited, the company has moved Supreme Court against Reliance Communications chief Anil Ambani and seeked his arrest in a debt clearance case.
“The contemnor named above having committed and guilty of contempt of court be directed to be detained in civil prison unless the aforesaid contemnors purge themselves by making payment of Rs 550 crores along with interest thereon in terms of the order dated October 23, 2018,” the plea by Ericsson in the Supreme Court has said.
Besides this, the Ericsson has also sought a “civil detention” for Anil Ambani as the company fears that he might fly away from the country.
The petition further said that “It is respectfully being brought to the notice of this court that respondents have not paid payment of Rs 550 crore as ordered and as undertaken by December 15, 2018 or even thereafter. Clearly, the respondents have committed a gross contempt of this court deserve to be punished for the same.”
In addition to corruption, the PM should be investigated for weakening national security by giving the Rafale contract to his friend and international debt master, Anil Ambani. https://t.co/rWSWGLrNEo

“The fresh application was filed because RCom and others did not comply with the SC order. We have been waiting for payments for a long time and their default is contempt of court,” senior advocate Anil Kher said.
“Under contempt of court act, if found guilty, this could lead to civil imprisonment, which means jail up to six months,” as reported by Economic Times.
The Supreme Court had given a deadline of December 15 to Anil Ambani to repay the amount but he has violated all the valid dates.
