The Election Commission on November 5 has declared the dates of the by-elections for the vacant Assembly and Parliamentary seats in five states. The by-elections include the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat that fell vacant after the demise of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in October.
As per the Election Commission, the polling will take place on December 5 and the votes will be counted on December 8, the date, however, coincides with the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections result date.
Here are the assembly seats where the by-polls will be conducted by the EC: Padampur in Odisha, Sardarshahar in Rajasthan, Kurhani in Bihar, Bhanupratappur(ST) in Chhattisgarh, and Rampur in Uttar Pradesh,
Rampur assembly seat is going under election after the disqualification of Samajwadi Party MLA Azam Khan. He was disqualified after the court sentenced him to three years in jail in a hate speech case.
The deadline to file nominations and the date of scrutiny for nominations are November 17 and November 18, respectively. If a candidate wants to withdraw his/her candidacy, he/she can do so until November 21.
