Sonia Gandhi performed “puja” in Rae Bareli along side Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi and a havan was also organised by the Congress workers in Rae Bareli itself.
Priyanka Gandhi’s children were also present during the rituals, who are named as Raihan and Miraya.
Rae Bareli has been the bastion of the Congress party and the SP-BSP alliance have left the seat in their seat-sharing deal as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had to contest from the constituency.
Congress, which has opted to go alone in Uttar Pradesh in the 2019 elections, is hoping to win a dozen of seats which includes Amethi and Rae Bareli. The contest this time has become triangular after the grand old party inducted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as their General Secretary for the Eastern UP.
Rahul Gandhi, who took the charge of Congress president from her mother, said “There have been many, many people in Indian history that had the arrogance to believe that they are invincible, that they are bigger than the people of India. But they don't realise nobody is bigger than the people. Modi ji's invincibility will be in full view in this election.”
Sonia Gandhi reiterated 2004 General elections, as most of the pollster have predicted a win for the BJP, which was riding under the ‘India Shining’ slogan, led by then PM Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lalkrishna Advani among others but it was the UPA which was able to form the government at the Centre with Dr. Manmohan Singh becoming new Prime Minister.
