There is good news for those who frequently travel between Delhi to Mumbai, and Delhi to Howrah as the Indian Railways has planned to embark on an ambitious project to reduce the travel time considerable for these locations. Soon, you will be able to reach Mumbai from Delhi in just 10 hours by train. The distance between Delhi to Howrah will be covered in 12 hours.
According to media reports, the Indian Railways plans to achieve a speed of 160 kmph on these routes by 2023, which means a reduction of travel time by five hours on Delhi and Mumbai route. This also means five-and-half-hours of journey time saved between the national capital and Kolkata.
The railways has finalised this proposal as a part of its 100-day agenda under the Narendra Modi government's second edition say media reports. The railways has estimated to spend around Rs 13,500 crore in shoring.
These two routes are very busy and there is an immediate need to shore up the track infrastructure. These two tracks account for nearly 30 per cent of passenger and 20 per cent of total freight traffic. As per the media reports, the ministry has sent the proposal to the PMO in this regard.
