Students in university campuses across the country and even abroad staged protests in solidarity with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and condemned the violence that took place in the varsity. The violence is also receiving widespread condemnation, including from the Delhi Police police lawyer Rahul Mehra.
Taking to Twitter, Delhi Police's lawyer said, I, as Standing Counsel Delhi Police, hang my head in shame after witnessing video clips of goons merrily entering JNU campus, creating mayhem and grievously injuring innocent students, damaging public property and then exiting the campus in the capital city."
"Where is our force?", asked Mehra tagging the official Twitter Handle of Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

"In case there is still any doubt and one needs to find out as to who exactly has been the aggressor and who the victim at JNU then all that needs to do is to take stock of who really sustained injuries? Those who belong to ABVP or the Left backed student group?" Mehra said in another Tweet.

Meanwhile, the senior warden of Jawaharlal Nehru University's Sabarmati Hostel today resigned from his post stating: We tried but could not provide security to the hostel.
The violence broke out at the varsity on Sunday night as masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and faculty members of the university, and damaged property on the campus, prompting the administration to call in the police which conducted a flag march.
As per reports, at least 28 people, including JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos reigned on the campus for nearly two hours.
