The rape victim from the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh airlifted to Delhi and admitted to Delhi Safdarjung Hospital after she was set on fire allegedly by five persons, died at 11.40 pm on Friday.
After battling for life at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital, the Unnao Rape victim who was set ablaze while on her way to a court hearing on Thursday, died at 11.40 pm Friday.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Dr Shalab Kumar, HoD of burns and plastic department at the hospital said, "It is very sad that the Unnao rape victim could not survive despite our best efforts. She suffered cardiac arrest at 11:10 pm and we tried to resuscitate her, but she could not survive."
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, Swati Maliwal demanded capital punishment for rapists. "I appeal to the Uttar Pradesh govt and central govt that rapists in this case (Unnao rape case) should be hanged within a month.," Swati said.

On Thursday, the 23-year-old Unnao rape victim was airlifted from Lucknow's SMC government hospital to Safdarjung Hospital.
Notably, the victim from Unnao district in Uttar was on Thursday allegedly set on fire by a group of five men, including one who was accused of the crime. Five men have been arrested in this connection.
The woman was on her way to the railway station to catch an early morning train to Rae Bareli when she was stopped by the accused. Then the accused persons hit her head and attacked with a sharp weapon on her neck. As the woman slumped, they poured kerosene on the body and then set her on fire.
The accused fled the scene soon after.
Later, some passersby came to her rescue and informed the local police. Soon the police reached the spot and sent the victim to a hospital for treatment.
