A cyclone named ‘Mandous’ which is about 580 kms away from Chennai, is likely to move west-northwestward and cross the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh tomorrow (December 9) at midnight with a wind speed of 65-70 km per hour, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Under the influence of cyclone ‘Mandous’, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in Chennai and other districts in Tamil Nadu over the next two days . Moderate rainfall is also likely in Puducherry and Karaikal until December 11.
As per the weather bulletin, heavy rainfall is expected to occur at isolated places in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Pudukkotai today.
Heavy rainfall is expected to occur over Kancheepuram, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Tiruchirapalli, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram.

As per media reports, teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the state and Puducherry. Six teams have been sent to Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Chennai districts.
