The CRPF on 16 May reportedly said that 10-15 Maoists had been gunned down on 14 May in a massive operation in Bastar.

The operation was carried to take revenge of the killing of 25 jawans in Sukma on April 24, reported the Times of India. The joint team of CRPF, CoBRA, Special Task Force and District Reserve Group carried the operation in Bijapur's Basakura area.

The team stormed the core area of the rebels and killed the Maoists.

"Our forces, who went deep into the forests to carry out the operations, saw Maoists falling down after being hit by bullets. However, neither bodies nor weapons could be recovered during these operations," TOI quoted a senior officer of the Chhattisgarh police as saying.

The report further added that in an interview given to ANI, DIG Dantewada P Sunderraj said that the mission was coordinated by a joint command and control centre. The operation, which was claimed to be successful, was closely monitored from Raipur.
