Coronavirus: Arvind Kejriwal pledges Rs 5,000 to income hit cab, auto drivers amid lockdown

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday promised help to cab and auto drivers of the city, whose income have taken a massive blow in the 21 day nationwide lockdown to curb the Covid-19. The government, he said, has special plans for auto and cab drivers, who have made an appeal to him for aid.

"Rs 5,000 will be put in your accounts. But the problem is that we don't have all your bank details. So it will take seven to 10 days. Please be patient," said the Chief Minister, underscoring his government's action to help the needy during the lockdown.

The Delhi Chief Minister stated that his government has made arrangements to feed 10 lakh people every day. Arvind Kejriwal had also vowed earlier that his government would pay the rents of people who have been unable to pay it even a few months after lockdown ends.

Cautioning that the SARS-CoV-2 in Delhi in the coming days, Arvind Kejriwal stated that 108 of the 219 coronavirus patients in the national capital are from the Nizamuddin Markaz, which has come up as the virus hotspot of the national capital.

Over the last few days, a nationwide manhunt has been going on after several people who took part in the event at the Markaz last month tested positive.

Several people, some even from coronavirus infected nation, had taken part in the event, following which they have scatter throughout the country.

"People from the Markaz seem critical. So far, 2,346 people have been tested from the markaz. Expect patients' data will shoot up in Delhi," Mr Kejriwal said.

As the nationwide surge in coronavirus cases linked to the Markaz came, the Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government announced that it will temporarily trace the phone numbers of people who are expected to be in isolation to verify that they are not out.

Earlier in the day, Arvind Kejriwal stated that altogether, 2,943 people have been isolated in the national capital and 21,307 have been adviced to ensure self-isolation at home.
