Madras High Court earlier this month directed the state government to ban downloading of TikTok. A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court against Madras High Court order banning TikTok App. Responding on the plea the Supreme Court said, "it will look into it.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Information Technology minister M Manikandan had urged centre to ban TikTok and said the state government will seek Centre’s help to ban TikTok.
Two months after Tamil Nadu government's appeal, Madras High Court directed the state government to prohibit downloading of Chinese video app TikTok.
The Madras High Court said it is ‘encounraging pornography’ and taking further note, it had asked the Centre to ban downloading the Chinese video app TikTok.
“They should be alert with regard to these type of problems,” stated the order. “The people are making cruel humour against innocent third parties. Even television channels are telecasting TikTok videos, which are liable to be prohibited,” the order said.
“Majority of the teens are playing pranks, gaffing around with duet videos sharing with split screen to the strangers. The children who use the said application are vulnerable and may expose them to sexual predators …. Without understanding the dangers involved in these kinds of Mobile Apps., it is unfortunate that our children are testing with these Apps,” said Justice N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar passing an interim order.
TikTok is a short video making an app that allows users to film and share videos with special effects. It over 54 million monthly active users across India.
