Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 has been passed by the Parliament’s lower house and now it will be produced in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow for further clearance.
“The politicians of any country do not want religious persecution,” said Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the Citizenship Bill.
Singh had added during a discussion in the parliament that “The Bill will safeguard the interests of Assam. The government ensures protection to minorities. Misinformation is being spread against the Bill. It is not biased towards any religion.”
Opposition parties raised objection over the Bill where AIDUF MP Badruddin Ajmal, “The AIDUF is an Assam-based political party. The bill has evoked strong protests in Assam. The AGP, another Assam party is also opposing the Bill.”
