Thane (Maharashtra): Five patients, including a pregnant woman, died within a span of just one day at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, operated by the Thane Municipal Corporation, as confirmed by hospital authorities.

Serious Allegations

In the wake of these deaths, attendants and relatives of the patients created a ruckus within the hospital premises, accusing the hospital administration of demanding money for basic amenities.

They alleged that hospital staff were demanding Rs 100 for mobile charging, Rs 200 for an ICU bed, and Rs 200 for an oxygen bed.

Police Deployment

As the commotion escalated, the police were deployed in heavy force. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awad visited the hospital to assess the situation and held the hospital administration accountable for the deaths.

Hospital's Claim of ICU Bed Shortage

Meanwhile, Dr. Anirudh Malgaonkar, the Hospital Medical Officer, stated on Thursday, "Five people have died, including one patient from cardiac arrest, one from vomiting, one unidentified, and one with a foot abscess. Additionally, a pregnant woman has also passed away." Malgaonkar mentioned that the hospital has reached its maximum capacity and that there are no vacant ICU beds.
