Chhath Puja 2018: Pregnant woman travelling to Bihar to celebrate Chhath puja, murdered for objecting to smoking in train

In a shocking incident on the occasion of Chhath Puja, a woman, who was travelling to Bihar to celebrate the festival was allegedly killed for objecting smoking in the train.

As per reports, the woman identified as 45-year-old Chinat Devi was travelling to Bihar in Punjab-Bihar Jallianwala Express train's general boggey along with her family. When she objected to a co-passenger, identified as Sonu Yadav, smoking, GRP police station In-charge, Shahjahanpur, A K Pandey said.

A heated argument broke between the woman and the co-passenger, after which he allegedly attacked her and strangled her to death. The train was stopped at Shahjahanpur and the woman was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead, Pandey said.

The deceased and her family were on their way to Bihar for taking part in Chhat puja festivities, Pandey said. The accused was arrested and the body was sent for post-mortem, he said.

Chhath Puja falls on 11 November this year and people across India are travelling to their home in Bihar, Jharkhand and UP to celebrate Chhath Puja with family.
