In a shocking incident, a woman research scholar at IIT-Madras was mysteriously found hanging in her hostel room on 1st January, Tuesday. The 25-year-old Ranjana Kumari of Jharkhand, pursuing PhD was found hanging in her hostel room.
Reportedly this is the second suicide in IIT in the last four months. Kumari joined the institute in 2017, was pursuing a doctorate in the metallurgy and material science department. No suicide note was found in her room at the Sabarmati hostel on the campus, the police said.
According to TOI, Ranjana Kumari did not step out of her room for the last two days. After attempts to reach her on phone failed, Kumari's parents informed her hostel mates who found her dead in the room.
In September last year, reportedly, a final year student of IIT-Madras allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his room. 23-year-old Shahul Kornath, from Malappuram in Kerala, was doing a dual degree programme in naval architecture. No suicide note was found in that case either.
