Bihar is a dry state, and the Nitish Kumar-led state government had imposed complete prohibition on liquor and drugs in 2016. As a result, the opposition parties in the State Assembly raised questions and criticized the state government over the recent incident in Chapra where people lost their lives after consuming toxic liquor.
Even after the liquor ban, Bihar continues to witness deaths owing to the consumption of spurious liquor.
In a recent incident, as many as five people lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor in the Saran district's Chhapra. The death toll is expected to rise. The local police are currently investigating the matter.
