Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked to vacate her govt bungalow in Delhi by next month

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sent a notice to Congress general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to vacate her government bungalow in New Delhi by next month.

The notice was sent after the government has cancelled the allotment of Priyanka Gandhi’s bungalow after her SPG cover was withdrawn by the Central government in 2019.

Congress leader has been asked to vacate her 35 Lodhi Estate bungalow within a month after the government cancelled the allotment.

"Consequent upon withdrawal of SPG protection and grant of Z+ security cover by Ministry of Home Affairs, which does not have provision for allotment/retention of government accommodation on security ground to you, the allotment of Type 6B house number 35, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi is hereby cancelled with effect from 01/07/2020," said the ministry's notice.

Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka has been living at the Type VI bungalow since 1997.

According to the notice, if Gandhi stays beyond August 1 then she will have to pay a penalty.
Besides Priyanka Gandhi, the Special Protection Group (SPG) cover was also given to her mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP, which was withdrawn in November last year.

As per the revised government allotment rules, the SPG protectees are entitled to government accommodation as private citizens.
